Last Sunday after morning shift at the dental clinic, I headed down to Holland Village for a highly anticipated event at MU Parlour! Michelle had RSVP-ed to Mediacorp’s invitation to the event on Facebook and she was one of the 15 out of 100+ people who was chosen to have successfully RSVP-ed! Haha we sure have luck for these kinds of things.
The event featured the relatively new Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost range of products, one that promises to hydrates your skin to restore its radiance, bounce and smooth texture! It’s a complete lineup inclusive of everything you need, from Step 1 Cleanser to the final step Sunblock and everything in between like pre-essence. There’s also a Night Concentrate, and Mask for extreme measures.
Participants were requested to go bare-faced as they would like us to experience the effects of the Hydro Boost range on-site! Various types of cleansers were available to let us remove our make up. I applied BB cream for work, so I used the Neutrogena Deep Clean Make-up remover wipes. Easy and convenient!
It was extra exciting for us because the event was being filmed by Mediacorp!
All 3 of them were so entertaining and cute! It was a pleasure to listen to Jia Hui’s voice as if it was a radio talk show. Yan was endearing like an elder sister, and Dr Derrick Aw was comical with his words and presentation that it wasn’t boring at all.
The focus of his presentation was “Skin and Hydration”, a topic which I think is very important. He started by introducing the different layers of our skin, like in a Biology class, then moved on to bust some skincare myths!
Here are some common misconceptions on skin hydration that he addressed:
True or False?
- One way to hydrate your skin is to splash water on your face
- Drinking plenty of water helps to hydrate your skin
- You don’t have to hydrate oily skin
- Perspiration helps to hydrate the skin
Okay hands up those who think at least one of those above are true!
THEY ARE ALL FALSE OKAY! Haha. Read on for the explanations.
—> Splashing water on the skin dehydrates it more as the water droplets carries more water molecules away with it when it evaporates. After showers/swims/cleansing, do towel dry quickly!
—> I thought at least the drinking water myth would be true, cuz we were always taught to hydrate our body with plenty of water. But while water helps to flush toxins out of our body, there is insufficient data to say that it helps to hydrate the outermost layers of skin. To hydrate our skin, what we need are masks or topical creams!
—> There is a delicate balance of water in the skin and production of oil is partly due to lack of moisture. Very simple, if your skin is lacking in moisture, it produces oil to keep the skin moist and smooth. So having oily skin is a sign that your skin is dehydrated, which is why hydration is even more important!
—> Hehe, perspiration is excreted from our skin, so it goes all the way outside of our bodies. Since it’s meant to be out, there’s no way it could enter the skin barrier again to hydrate it!
After the informative session, we had some delectable canapes and mini cakes courtesy of MU Parlour.

With other beauty bloggers Candy, Jocelyn, and Michelle! So happy to bump into Candy and Jocelyn again after the V 10 Plus event! :)
Had to take a picture with Yan! This is me with no make-up as I didn’t apply any after trying on the Neutrogena products. The Treatment Lotion Pre-Essence didn’t leave any sticky feeling nor shine, so I felt totally fine with leaving the event without make up!
BTW I walked away with 2 bags of Neutrogena Hydro Boost full-sized products which I absolutely absolutely love. Ever since learning of my skin concerns from the Korean Skin Map that I did two week ago, I’ve switched my focus from anti-ageing to hydrating my skin, and Neutrogena Hydro Boost came to my aid at the best timing ever. :)
I won the whitening masks just by answering a simple question!! *happy*
