Beauty Review: DRx Clinic #1 – First Consultation and Derma-Rx Products

Tis’ a season to be joyful! I just received the best gift a woman would want; not diamonds, not Prada bag, but the promise of beautiful, clear skin. Nope I don’t have that perfect skin yet, but I know that I will in the months to come. That’s how much trust I have in DRx Clinic and its skin doctors!

I’ve never had clear skin, it was always plagued by clogged pores and pimples. During puberty I had super oily skin and over years of oily skin, my skin had become dull, uneven and pigmented with pimple marks. I’ve had freckles since young so they don’t bother me too much; but what I hate are the pimple scars, which I have to cover with concealer all the time. Even after successful treatments, new pimples pop out again and then form marks again. So solutions were rather temporary and I constantly have to keep a lookout for products that work.

But now that DRx is my long-term beauty provider, I can rest at ease that my skin is in good hands! :) I have long known DRx from beauty blogs and they have mostly reviewed good results, so I am really excited to start my own regime!

First consultation with DRx Clinic…

Last week, I went for my first consultation with Dr. Yanni Xu. Went without make up as the doctor has to examine the real skin conditions. I’ve been to facials but never to an Aesthetic Physician and there’s such a different feel to visiting a skin clinic instead of a beauty parlour.

It’s almost like a mini ‘poly-clinic’! Hahaha

The steps of the first consultation at DRx Clinic go like this:

1) Register – fill in a very simple form about your particulars.

2) See a doc – Doc examines your condition and advises which Derma-Rx products to include in your regime.

3) Consultant thoroughly explains the products prescribed for you and how to use them (this step takes place in another cubicle room).

4) Consultant brings you to another room to take front and profile photos of your face to keep in the clinic’s database. The photos are strictly confidential and for reference only.

5) Wait to collect your products at pharmacy and make payment.

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogI was done in all of ~30 minutes!! But then of course I stayed behind to apply a bit of BB cream at the make-up area before leaving. Haha.

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogDr. Yanni Xu, my doctor at DRx, who is very friendly and puts you at ease immediately with her warm smile. I always thought doctors were intimidating, but with her, it was a very pleasant experience. She has a long line of credentials behind her and you can read more about her by clicking on her name. I felt completely okay sharing about my skin problems, such as pimple marks and large pores.

So that concludes my first visit to DRx Clinic! My next consultation is one month later in December, where Dr. Yanni will evaluate how well the products are working for me and will see if any tweaking to my regime is required.

My Personalised Derma-Rx Regime

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogThe combination of products prescribed to each patient is customised to his/her skin conditions, so it yields the best results. You don’t need what you don’t need. I had to apply my products in the following sequence, but it may be different for different people.

What I got are: (Click to enlarge)

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogDerma-Rx products work seamlessly in a 3-step system of Priming, Remedying, and Protecting your skin.

Foaming cleanser ($42.80) + Toner ($42.80)

The foaming cleanser contains Marine Algae extracts for lifting surface lipids. soothing and refreshing skin, while the toner is an alcohol-free liquid that contains Glycolic and Salicylic Acid for double cleansing.

Lather the foaming cleanser with both palms to create a smooth foam. Pour toner onto cotton pad and wipe face.

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogComedone Formula ($78.11)

The Comedone Formula is one of the popular products from DRx as it dissolves away comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), and also reduces the appearance of new comedones. Isn’t that cool?

I was prescribed these two special creams for lightening my pigmentation. Just a very tiny amount of each is needed each time so they come in miniature bottles.

Max-C, synonymous to its name, contains the maximum possible stable concentration of Vitamin C to counter free radicals that we encounter daily. It also encourages the production of collagen and elastin to maintain tautness and firmness of skin.

Apply a thin layer over the whole face. Do not rub.

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogHydrator ($74.90)

Contains Hyaluronic Acid and Green Tea extract to lightly moisturise and prevent collagen from breaking down. I was advised to use this only if my skin feels really dehydrated, otherwise I could skip it.

Apply a thin layer over dry areas like cheeks. Do not rub.

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogTinted Sunscreen SPF 30+ ($62.06)

The first tinted sunscreen that I’ve tried. Tinted sunscreens are also the lightest when compared to BB creams or foundation but better than a non-tinted sunscreen in terms of coverage.

Apply a thin layer over whole face.

A small wish that came true…

Beauty Diary with DRx Clinic #1 Singapore Beauty BlogAnd so, I posted a photo last week on my Facebook Page and Instagram announcing my blessed opportunity to visit The DRx Clinic. DRx is not an unfamiliar name in the blogosphere and to be honest, at one point of time, I really wanted to go. Haha but that thought sort of went to the back of my mind when my schedule got busy. How fortunate that a small wish that was planted came true! Much thanks to Wilson and Jocelyn from DRx for this opportunity! I am so grateful!
