Even though this is a sponsored video post, it is something that is close to my heart. I have been following news of Priscilla Shunmugam as I admire her fashion designs for womenswear label, Ong Shunmugam. Her success story inspires me so much, but I did not know that she had once faced the same difficulties as those that I am facing now.
I can relate to her when she says, “…I felt that I had achieved something, but at the same time, I felt that I had nothing”. I can relate to her feelings of misplacement, confusion of one’s purpose in life, and questions of ‘is that all to life?’.
I started my handmade goods business Beary Naise Co. with only Hammy as my cheerleader – but sometimes, it just takes one person to give you enough courage to take that step to do the unthinkable. I’m not doing anything extraordinary like being a lawyer, doctor, banker, or the biologist that I completed university to be (I know I never will…), but I am realising my place in this world, and because of that, even though the entire world stands against me, I feel at peace with myself. Because I am allowing life to unfold and flow, I know that at the end of my struggle, there is a piece of the pie that belongs to me.
Sometimes you just have to shut out voices telling you that you’ll earn more money doing a certain profession, because life is not all about earning money and being rich. We are all on earth for a different purpose – not everyone will become CEOs, some will never even come close to becoming one – so why are we all chasing after the same things?
Just strive to be the best version of yourself.
