Having a beautiful smile is very important to a person’s overall outlook! How many times have we heard stories of silent sufferers not daring to smile widely in joy because of yellow/stained teeth? Teeth stains can come from many causes that include smoking, drinking coffee/tea, poor dental hygiene, and research have shown that 1 in 5 people are dissatisfied with their teeth colour. But did you know that going for tooth whitening treatments, such as bleaching, can lead to tooth sensitivity? Furthermore, tooth whitening toothpastes often contain abrasive polishing or chemical agents that wears away surface stains. Which is why there is sort of a tug-of-war between whitening and tooth sensitivity. Seems like you can’t get the best of both worlds?
If you’re already suffering from tooth sensitivity, can you pursue whitening as well??
If you experience a sharp pain when drinking ice cold water or eating ice cream, and there are no visible cavities or decay, you might be a sufferer of tooth sensitivity. It is caused by wearing away of the enamel or receding gums (gingivitis) and exposing the inner structure of tooth, known as dentine. Dentine is softer than enamel, and is more prone to wearing away due to hard vigorous brushing or abrasive toothpastes such as regular whitening toothpastes.
You don’t have to compromise on tooth whitening
Tooth whitening treatments have become increasingly popular in the recent years and for tooth sensitivity sufferers, you don’t have to forgo having the option of whitening your teeth at the same time!
Sensodyne True White is able to lift and prevent dental stain without compromising on sensitivity relief. Its unique formula makes it 10 times less abrasive than normal whitening toothpastes, which allows tooth sensitivity sufferers to limit further wear on exposed dentine and yet achieve a whiter set of pearlies!
A little note on Oral Health
During my stint at a dental clinic previously, I realised that oral health is severely neglected by many people. From the behaviours and attitudes of the patients who step into the clinic, it is appalling how little effort majority of them make to maintaining a good oral health. Sometimes it’s not that they don’t care, but they don’t know the complications of poor oral health. I bet everyone would make a better effort if they knew that poor oral hygiene with gum disease is almost as predictive of heart disease as high cholesterol! Yikes.
Now here’s a gentle reminder to floss and rinse your mouth with water after every meal, and brush twice daily! <3
