I was really really excited when Joyce invited me to attend her spa party. She’s one of the finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012 under the Mary Chia Beauty category and Mary Chia has kindly sponsored $300 for each of the finalists to plan and execute their own spa party! That must have been nerve-wrecking! Click here to read about her thoughts and how she came up with the concept of the party! =) By the way, the party turned out amazing. I learned so many beauty tips thanks to her presentation and input by the other guests that night!!
The party was on a Friday evening, 7-9pm and held at Mary Chia Serangoon Nex outlet. A cozy area that’s usually used for manicures and pedicures was converted to be the party area for us. I was seated in one of those big comfy armchairs by the side. :) I didn’t quite know anyone there except for Joyce. There were some familiar faces like Vivian and Valerie – sisters, Ying Zi and Don, whom I recall seeing in Cineleisure’s Next Online Sensation. Hehehe hey I do keep up with such news ok! BUT alas, I don’t have the courage to mingle yet. >;.<; Especially when they all know each other and I’m the newbie. Lol. But I’m really grateful for Joyce’s invitation! =D
The lovely cupcakes by The Yellow Teacup in Green tea, Earl grey and Red velvet flavours. I tried the red velvet one. Frankly, it was my first time having a red velvet cupcake, so I have no basis for comparison, but it tasted pretty good! Soft and moist. There were also AWESOME macaroons from Bakerzin’s. I tried the blueberry and lemon flavoured ones. So gloriously sweet.
Joyce also painstakingly prepared a fat goody bag for us. There are so many BB creams, moisturizers, vouchers, all sponsored by Mary Chia, myfatpocket.com, Vanity Trove, L’Oreal Paris Singapore and Skin79 (Starasia) inside!! She really put in a lot of effort to ensure that her guests go home with a bagful of goodies <;3<;3
The party began proper with a demonstration of the efficacy of Mary Chia’s facial products. From that segment, I learned from Joyce how to create fine foam from any soap cleanser just by using a simple beauty net tool! That was pretty amazing cuz now I can create fine foam from any cleanser with formulation that suits my skin, and not just stick to pre-foamed ones. Cuz I love fine foamed cleansers, but they are more expensive than normal cleansers!
Then we were introduced to this wonder lip plumper. Oh boy am I in love with this right now. I will probably do a review on it soon, cuz I wear it almost everyday now and totally love how it plumps up my measly lips!
Joyce then got cheeky and asked Don, the only guy in the party, to be a model for the lip plumper! Haha Don was really gungho about it. Joyce explained that guys should not be shy about using beauty products, and even them need to have kissable lips. Lol so lip balm usage should not be limited to just females.
She also applied a bright red lip tint on Valerie. I found that she could really carry red lips really well, as she looked va va voom after that! I, on the other hand, have never tried red lips. I wonder if I’d look ok, haha I should really try it some day. :S
From the lip balm segment, Joyce shared a tip with us that in order to maintain soft and moisturized lips, apply lip balm just before you go to bed, and the next morning, you’ll wake up with the softest lips!! That’s another amazing tip that I’ll be following religiously. I own a Vaseline lip balm, and have tried my best to apply it whenever I go out. But shortly after eating, I have to apply again, which I feel is so troublesome! So after awhile, I chucked it aside. Now I’m gonna do it at night so the balm has a chance to stay on my lips for a few hours. :)
There was also a ‘#1 Beauty Tip’ sharing session by guests where everyone had to write down what they thought was the top beauty essential. After discussion, the winner was – SLEEP! Haha who can deny that? Skin regenerates and repairs itself when we’re asleep, so sleep is probably the best solution. Joyce also picked out her favourite tip, which is to have inner beauty, and think happy thoughts! =) There were also other worthy tips like “Always always remove make up before going to bed” and “Use warm green tea bags to alleviate eye bags.” <;—– Does it work? I should really try this.
Lastly, there was a photo-spamming session to have polaroids taken with Joyce and here’s mine! =) I really enjoyed the party and everything went so smoothly!! So happy for Joyce and I wish her all the best in the Singapore Blog Awards! You could vote for her here!! – http://sgblogawards.omy.sg/2012/category/?cat=beauty
