Have you heard of Talika?
Talika, since 1948, is a high-end French brand that focuses on bringing original and effective products that suit women’s needs perfectly. They are well-known for their LIPOCILS EXPERT, a legendary eyelash conditioning gel that promises longer lashes in just 28 days! Its efficacy has led to many Hollywood stars being loyal customers. They have since launched several product lines targeting 3 critical areas, namely eyes, face and nails.
In 2013, they have finally come up with a skincare line that is in accordance to their mission in making sure that their products are completely original and innovative. After rounds of scientific research and clinical trials, their new skincare line, Photo-Beauty Therapy, was finalised. And this time, the focus is on using LIGHT to help repair skin damage.
I was very honoured to be invited to Talika Singapore‘s media launch held at The Equinox at Swissotel on Mar 22nd last week. When I first read the tagline of Talika’s Photo-beauty Therapy range, I was a little confused and very interested to learn more!
We’ve all been told about the harmful effects of sunlight on our skin. The fact that UV light can cause DNA damage and in turn skin ageing, is creating a huge market for sunscreens and make up products with SPF. But light is the source of life and surrounds us on Earth after all, and no matter how much we avoid it, it is inevitable that we are exposed to it.
And what if we could make use of light to help us in the fight against skin ageing instead of just surrendering to its damaging effects? Sounds too incredible to be true? :)
Well, it’s not. And it all lies in the science behind the Photo-Beauty Therapy skincare range. I love this part. :)
The following information is catered to science geeks, like me. ;P
The DNA in cells is the genetic code that tells a cell to function correctly. However, with long-term exposure to UV rays, the DNA chain breaks and or mutates, and that leads to accelerated appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots.
Talika has isolated an enzyme found in deep sea blue microalgae, that has the ability to naturally transform light energy into dermo-repairing energy and repair damaged DNA. They named it the “Photo-Beauty Enzyme (PBE)”.
I did some research and found out that such an enzyme is a photolyase, a DNA repair enzyme that repairs DNA damaged by UV light. The mechanism is called photoreactivation. A very simple explanation for photoreactivation is:
“A process that repairs DNA damaged by ultraviolet light using an enzyme (photolyase) that requires visible light.” – Dictionary.com
The Photo-Beauty Enzyme repairs abnormalities in the DNA in just a few nanoseconds, allowing DNA to recover its original form and functional capacities, and skin to regain optimal performance. ^^
Just 48 hours after treatment, 87% of changes to DNA caused by UV are repaired!!* (*Ex vivo tests)
Back to the media event, as I will do a review on the products in another post. :)
Members of the press and bloggers were treated to some delicious canapes from The Equinox. The little delights kept coming and we couldn’t stop eating!
The view from level 69 of Swissotel Stamford. Very beautiful. We were so high up that the ferris wheel looked so small. I was elated to have captured this cuz it’s not a view that I get to see often. :)
The talk was delivered by the lovely Sina Deubner, who is the regional export director for Talika. Her enthusiasm and trust in her products really rubs off her listeners, as I couldn’t wait to give the products a try.
The star of the show, the main product, is The Light Essence universal cellular activator.
The Light Essence acts like a correction curve, an ‘equalizer’ which takes just a few seconds to reset all ‘cell counters’ to zero. Meanwhile it boosts the youthfulness process in your epidermis. What it simply means is that it reverts damages done to your skin cells such that the cells are renewed and recover their ‘original’ potential. As a result, skin is able to receive and transmit the benefits of daily skincare like never before!
Then they have the Photo-Beauty Therapy BRIGHTENING LINE, which includes a serum and a cream. The serum is a lighter version of the cream and is recommended for daily use, while the cream is richer in texture, and contains shea butter for intense nourishment for the skin. I presume that ladies in Singapore would prefer the serum!
The Photo-Beauty Therapy Brightening Serum and Cream contain:
- Photo-Beauty Enzyme – Transforms visible light into cellular energy, helps to regenerate and protect the skin’s DNA
- Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) – supports the skin in creating an effective barrier to external pollutants that influence the ageing process
- Zinc – assists in the production of collagen, decreases the activity of free radicals, and eases inflammation
The other line is the Photo-Beauty Therapy ANTI-AGEING LINE. Similarly, there is a serum and cream, both containing active ingredients that treat all signs of ageing: wrinkles, loss of firmness, skin refinement, and dehydration.
After two weeks, ex vivo tests revealed that skin increased collagen production by 19.9%, and after 4 weeks, the signs of ageing are visibly reduced.
I am receiving the ANTI-AGEING LINE for review, so I will do a more detailed post. I’ve already started using the Light Essence and I’m happy with its efficacy. I can’t wait to start on the anti-ageing regime! ;)
Talika is only available at BHG Bugis and Sephora.
