After bringing Hammy’s Grammy for a doctor’s appointment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, we dropped by Novena Square 2 for lunch.
Popped into this interesting Chicken Rice restaurant. Why is it interesting? You’ll see later.
There were 4 of us, but 3 petite ladies and one guy, so we ordered the set meal for 3. Proved to be the right decision as the portions were quite big.
I think their chicken rocks. It is springy, chewy, and juicy. Lots of lean meat too! Generous serving for 3 people.
This is the interesting thing for me as I’ve never eaten chicken rice wrapped up like this before! I was quite stunned when they served it. What a novel way to eat chicken rice. Maybe it aids in keeping moisture in the rice, that’s why their rice is so fat and juicy! Look at how it glistens even under natural lighting!
It may look sticky and soggy, but I assure you it’s not at all! The rice grains separate easily once you break the ‘block’ open with the spoon or chopsticks.
‘Rice block’ is aptly named because it literally bounced and nearly rolled off the plate while I was trying to remove the wrapper. Haha I think the plate is way too small. I had some difficulty keeping the rice in it.
Nice! Tastes homely and packs a lot of ingredients like lotus roots, carrots, red dates and pork ribs. Hammy found it a little too oily for his liking though, but I finished mine :P
This is really yummy! Not too sour or spicy; the fried tofu are crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I like this dish.
This dish is too oily for me because I think that gravy for vegetable dishes should be kept clear and non-greasy, otherwise it kinda defeats the purpose of eating veggy right?
What a cute Grammy. She loved the food there too and finished all her rice :)
We paid about $30 for the set for 3, but to be able to fill 4 people’s tummies, I’d say it’s worth it! I know it’s super pricey when you compare it with normal foodcourt/coffeeshop chicken rice, but this one comes with tofu salad, vegetables and soup! I think there are other combinations of dishes if I’m not wrong, so yeah, I don’t mind going back there to eat again. :D
